Axway File Transfer Direct – Ad hoc MFT Made Simple and Secure

Axway File Transfer Direct is an ad hoc file exchange solution that combines ease-of-use and convenience for the end user with enterprise-class large file transfer capabilities and policy-based governance. Leveraging the email clients or Web browser people already use, File Transfer Direct:

  • Provides easy-to-use interfaces for sending large files with the security, policy controls and visibility you need to protect your data – all in a solution that scales with business needs from department-level to enterprise-wide
  • Minimizes risk and liability by proactively monitoring email attachments, automatically enforcing communications and security policies, and concretely demonstrating compliance with industry and government regulations
  • Eliminates the temptation to resort to unmanaged “prosumer” ad hoc solutions, unsecured FTP servers or physical media alternatives (such as CDs and thumb drives) by supporting large file attachments from within an email client
  • Extends communications to trusted partners efficiently and securely with recipient identification, authentication and authorization, while still enforcing corporate policy and maintaining a complete audit trail with delivery confirmation
  • Cuts overall IT costs by lightening the administrative management burden on IT staff and reducing email server, network, and storage requirements

It’s like enterprise-class MFT.

Security, policy-based governance, and data loss prevention cut costs and reduce risks

Axway File Transfer Direct fits right into existing IT architectures and can access existing company directory services, improving the efficiency of email infrastructures while ensuring that files are delivered and tracked with security, integrity, and reliability.

Administrators can offer either recipient or repository-based exchange modes to users, and can also provide four different service access points including Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, web-based interfaces and even mobile devices (iOS).  Additionally, Axway File Transfer Direct provides community management capabilities that help ensure users are properly provisioned and updated within their virtual working groups.

With File Transfer Direct, you can bring traditional MFT security principles to ad hoc file exchange by applying customized policy controls to large email attachments. Using custom-built policies, File Transfer Direct can scan all outbound attachments to prevent costly, dangerous, and embarrassing data breaches. File Transfer Direct can identify:

  • Confidential data that is subject to privacy and audit regulations, such as personal health information and credit card, Social Security, or account numbers
  • More than 300 attachment types likely to include corporate assets or confidential information, such as spreadsheets, presentations, text documents, database files, and binary and nested files
  • Industry buzzwords and terminology, like “guarantee” in financial services, or the name of a medical condition in health care

When a policy violation is detected, any combination of countermeasures — including blocking, reporting, or notifying managers — can be applied to protect the information, the business relationship, and the company.  Additionally, administrators may set policies requiring recipient identification, authentication and authorization before viewing the attachment, thus ensuring content confidentiality. If the message is forwarded, those security requirements stay with the attachment. Administrators may also limit authorization to the original recipient only, which prohibits others from downloading the attachment.

It’s like using Email or File Folders.

Easy-to-use, seamless ad hoc managed file transfer fits the way people work.

Axway File Transfer Direct lets users send large file attachments directly from within a familiar interface with virtually no change to the way they normally do business – and with no need to manage disparate applications or web sites. Here’s how:

  • In recipient mode, Axway File Transfer Direct works just like email – users simply attach large files. File Transfer Direct then replaces the attachments with secure links that enable the recipient to download the files.
  • In repository mode, users have access to shared folders, much like standard Windows file folders. Users can share files in shared folders via a web browser, enabling easy access for both internal and external collaborators.

Axway File Transfer Direct reduces mailbox storage requirements and works around the size quotas imposed by administrators by offloading attachments to the File Transfer Direct server. The result? No more ad hoc headaches!  Securely and easily send large files without worrying about lost or rejected email messages, and with no new desktop software or end-user training required.
