SAN FRANCISCO, RSA Conference – Axway, the leading global provider of multi-enterprise solutions and infrastructure, today announced that Dr. Taher Elgamal was awarded the RSA® Conference Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the information technology (IT) security field. Now Chief Security Officer at Axway since its merger with Tumbleweed, Dr. Elgamal is credited as the inventor of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, a standard for securing Internet transactions.
Dr. Elgamal has created numerous technologies and standards for data security and digital signatures, including the cryptographic basis for the Digital Signature Standard (DSS). DSS is the United States government standard for digital signatures, which are the confirmations of email messages sent by the claimed sender. Dr. Elgamal also invented the Elgamal Cryptosystem, which is the foundation for modern elliptic-curve ciphers and used in many commercial encryption products. Dr. Elgamal will present his perspective on the security landscape at Axway’s booth #2417 today at 1 p.m. Pacific time.
"From my early days at Stanford University to my current initiatives at Axway, cryptography has been an important aspect of my life," said Dr. Elgamal. "It is a tremendous honor to be recognized amongst the IT security field’s brightest minds."
In addition to honoring Dr. Elgamal, Axway is also debuting new capabilities in two of its award-winning email security products: MailGate and Secure Messenger. The leading MailGate email security product (formerly Tumbleweed MailGate) is now available as a virtualized offering, which decreases messaging security’s physical footprint and costs by reducing hardware and operational needs. The product boasts a 50 to 70 percent savings on overall IT costs, and reduces overall energy consumption.
In addition, Axway launched a hosted offering of its industry-leading Secure Messenger (formerly Tumbleweed Secure Messenger) messaging encryption platform, including new true message recall functionality that allows the immediate recall of undelivered sent messages. Axway customers now have access to hosted encryption for data in motion, driven by robust, policy-based content filtering, running in a dedicated environment at a secure hosting facility.
A recent Forrester Research study found that data protection will be a priority for chief information security officers (CISOs) in the current economic environment as focus on protecting insider threats will continue to increase in a downturn. Axway’s Hosted Secure Messenger offering guards against accidental employee data leaks via encrypted email, which Axway also offers in software and hardware versions of Secure Messenger.
Axway is exhibiting at RSA Conference 2009 in booth #2417. Visitors will be able to view demonstrations of the Axway Managed File Transfer suite, as well as award-winning email security solutions, MailGate and Secure Messenger. More information about these solutions, including product demos, special product trial offers, and a new edition of Axway’s MFT Survival Guide, are available at www.axway.com/RSA.
