Wholesale Drug Company Selects Cyclone and Axway to Jumpstart Long-Term Compliance Strategy

North Carolina Mutual Drug to Address Current and Future Regulations with Integrated Compliance Platform — Controlled Substance Ordering is First Step

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. and PARIS - Cyclone Commerce and Axway, which are currently integrating operations following their January merger, today announced that North Carolina Mutual Drug has selected the companies as their solutions provider for the Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS). North Carolina Mutual Drug, also known as Mutual Drug, is a wholesale distributor for independent drug stores. With CSOS in place, Mutual Drug hopes to eliminate paper-based transactions by as much as 80 percent and save the company thousands of dollars annually.

The Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) controlled substance ordering regulations provide an electronic framework for the legal distribution of Level I and Level II controlled substances in order to deter diversion and ensure a sufficient supply of these drugs for legitimate medical purposes. Cyclone CSOS eliminates manual, paper-based processes to dramatically improve order processing, audit support and security capabilities. Mutual Drug selected Cyclone not only because of the CSOS application — independently certified for compliance with DEA regulations — but also because it leverages an integrated platform upon which other applications can be deployed to meet mandates such as ePedigree, serialization, product authentication and track-and-trace.

"We chose Cyclone's CSOS solution because we believe their product will integrate easily with our current systems and allow us to provide a smooth rollout to our customers," said Becky Saydak, CSOS project manager for Mutual Drug. "We look forward to examining the rest of Cyclone's suite of applications that will enable us to maintain a competitive edge within the industry and conform to regulations."

Mutual Drug's implementation of the CSOS system is expected to begin testing in May, 2006, with an official launch in June 2006. The DEA expects overall annual savings in the industry of roughly $264 million, or $1.8 billion over a period of 10 years once CSOS is fully implemented. (Drummond Group, 6/14/05)

"Our Healthcare Compliance Suite provides the only comprehensive solution for customers, such as Mutual Drug, that can enable broader commercial operations strategy from CSOS to distribution program monitoring and track and trace. This unique platform approach ensures compliance while accelerating their progress toward a transparent, safe and secure supply chain." said Daryl Eicher, Cyclone and Axway's vice president of solutions for healthcare and life sciences.

"We're eager to work with Mutual Drug to implement the CSOS automated system," said Tad Adams, Mutual Drug customer and pharmacist at Zebulon Drug in Zebulon, NC. "We expect our pharmacy and customers will only benefit from timely orders and deliveries by eliminating the amount of paper transactions and manual efforts."
