Tumbleweed Creates Single-Box Solution
for Secure Message Delivery and Anti-Fraud Protection in its
Latest Version of Popular E-Mail Firewall Latest Release from founder of the Anti-Phishing Working Group Offers Single-Vendor Solution for Anti-Spam, Policy Management, Secure Message Delivery and Fraud Protection Redwood City, CA – October 6, 2004 – Tumbleweed® Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:TMWD), the leading provider of e-mail security and data security solutions, today unveiled Tumbleweed Email Firewall 6.0™, the latest generation of Tumbleweed's award-winning email security gateway. Capitalizing on the growing demand for a single-vendor e-mail security solution, Tumbleweed has made its popular Secure Messenger product (formerly Secure Redirect) and its Email Firewall (EMF) product easily deployable on a single server, making it easier for enterprises to reduce risk and comply with various industry regulations. Tumbleweed has also decided to bundle its fraud detection service as part of EMF’s Dynamic Anti-Spam Service. This new service leverage’s Tumbleweed’s experience founding the Anti-Phishing Working Group to identify phishing attacks and other fraudulent messages delivered via email. More than 100 companies in the health care industry and more than 1000 other enterprises worldwide have turned to Tumbleweed for e-mail and data security products to send messages and data securely, scan outbound email for compliance issues, eliminate spam and viruses, and reduce the number of hacker and phishing attacks. Secure Messenger Integration "Email is like Swiss Cheese," said John Thielens, Tumbleweed CTO. "A single vendor solution that couples industry standard practices with cutting edge technology has proven to be the best approach for our customers. With one vendor, they can plug the security holes and let only clean inbound and outbound email through their networks.” "Companies are looking to simplify their deployments via vendors that can offer a complete, integrated and simple approach to e-mail security,” said Matt Cain, senior vice president at META Group, a leading provider of IT research, advisory services and strategic consulting. “A single vendor approach to email hygiene can result in procurement, support and operations efficiencies for the customer.” Anti-Fraud Service “Our customers realize e-mail security encompasses more than just spam reduction,” said Joseph Fisher, VP of Product Management for Tumbleweed. “When building EMF 6.0, we chose to give the anti-fraud service away for free with DAS to insure that our customers were protected against non-legitimate e-mail messages and to provide the best, single vendor e-mail security solution on the market.” Expanded encryption and security “We've been focused on email security over 10 years,”
said Jeffrey C. Smith Chairman, and CEO of Tumbleweed Communications.
“We've dedicated more man-hours to invention, problem
solving and R&D than many of our competitors have available
in their histories. Our patents have been licensed by over
20 companies, and we have the most production implementations
of any vendor for email authentication. With the release of
the Email Firewall and Secure Messenger 6.0, we’re continuing
to raise the bar with the industry's most robust, effective,
and easily deployed security architectures.” About Tumbleweed SAFE HARBOR STATEMENT Except for the historical information contained herein, the matters discussed in this press release may constitute forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those projected, particularly with respect to the ability of Tumbleweed’s products react to unsolicited bulk email and fraudulent email and the potential sales of such products.
