Tumbleweed’s Award-Winning Enhanced, Secure File Transfer Solution Selected by Clearstream

Clearstream, the international settlement and custody division of Deutsche Börse Group, selects Tumbleweed’s secure file transfer solution, SecureTransport, for settlement transactions online

Hurst, UK – 18 June, 2004 – Tumbleweed Communications EMEA, a leading provider of secure Internet messaging solutions for businesses and government agencies, announced today that Clearstream, a division of Deutsche Börse Group that provides settlement and custody services to financial institutions, has chosen Tumbleweed SecureTransport to offer its 2,000 worldwide customers an enhanced, secure file transfer solution over the Internet.

Following an evaluation of secure file transfer software providers, Clearstream has selected Tumbleweed’s award-winning, enhanced secure file transfer software, Secure Transport. Clearstream will make Secure Transport available to its customers as part of its CreationConnect suite of connectivity channels. The CreationConnect suite will incorporate Tumbleweed SecureTransport from Q3 2004 in its CreationDirect channel, which is Clearstream’s independent dedicated file transfer service that ensures the instructions for settlement of trades and the delivery of large report information is carried out securely and quickly.

Currently CreationDirect can link any in-house system to Clearstream via a Virtual Private Network or SWIFTNet. Now, with the use of Tumbleweed Secure Transport, customers will be given the choice to reliably and securely transfer files over the Internet.

“Whether our customers are based in London, Dubai, New York or Tokyo, we want to offer them a choice of connection possibilities. When connecting through a VPN you need to make sure that the local customer can use the VPN provider. By extending our service to the public Internet we alleviate those issues,” said Karl van Gestel, Clearstream’s Head of Settlement and Custody Design. “We chose Tumbleweed SecureTransport to offer our customers the option of secure Internet file transfer since it enables us a cost effective and quick roll-out for instance by not having to develop bespoke client software. SecureTransport’s business process integration engine further allows us to enhance the service in the future – for instance by providing email notification.”

Tumbleweed’s SecureTransport has recently won the “Best Communications Security” award at the prestigious Secure Computing Awards in the UK. The solution is used by leading banks, financial networks, and more than 20,000 corporate users to provide secure, open standards-based multi-protocol and multi-client data transfer services, with FIPS 140-1 certified encryption, guaranteed delivery, and powerful automation.

Martyn Richards, Managing Director for Tumbleweed Communications EMEA, commented: “Tumbleweed SecureTransport is a proven, enhanced secure file transfer software that reduces the cost of distribution of bulk data and financial messages. Clearstream and its customers will benefit from using a highly scalable and reliable Internet solution that matches security criteria and saves on leased line costs.”
