Tumbleweed's OCSP Responder Passes JITC Certification Testing for U.S. Department of Defense
Tumbleweed's Enterprise Validation Authority Allows the Department of Defense to Validate Digital Signatures in Real Time
Redwood City, CA - December 18, 2003 - Tumbleweed® Communications Corp.(Nasdaq:TMWD), a leading provider of mission-critical communication solutions for enterprises, financial services, healthcare and government, announces the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) has completed U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) testing of Tumbleweed Valicert Enterprise Validation Authority (EVA) version 4.6.1, and certifies that the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) Responder fully complies with "X.509 Internet Public Key Infrastructure Online Certificate Status Protocol, Request for Comment 2560," June 1999. Tumbleweed Valicert EVA is the only product in its class to be formally certified by the DOD.
JITC conducted certification testing at the JITC Fort Huachuca, Arizona, PKI laboratory. The purpose of the test was to determine if Tumbleweed Valicert EVA 4.6.1 is standards compliant and therefore interoperates with the DOD PKI. Tumbleweed's product is the first OCSP responder product to pass this thorough testing, and will enable the DOD to validate digital certificates in real-time. This ability is critical for the DOD in terms of better managing its PKI and ensuring against potential security breaches from typically error-prone digital certificate status synchronization processes. With JITC certification completed, the DOD can deploy Tumbleweed's Valicert EVA product with full confidence that it meets the standards required to operate in the DOD PKI
.
"We are very proud of having this DOD stamp of approval for our product," said John Hines, Director of EVA Product Development, "As a fifth generation product that has been deployed in many different operating environments both within the government and private sectors, we believe EVA is a mature, proven product. The DOD PKI represents the largest PKI deployment in the world and we look forward to continuing our work with the DOD to operationally deploy our products within their infrastructure."
Tumbleweed has JITC certificates for its EVA server, as well as its Desktop Validator and Server Validator Products. These certificates are available on-line at: http://www.tumbleweed.com.
