SSP-Litronic and Tumbleweed's Valicert Subsidiary to Offer Integrated Desktop Security Solution for Department of Defense Common Access Card Program

Real-time Certificate Validation for the DoD

Redwood City, CA - September 24, 2003 - SSP-Litronic, the government enterprise division of SSP Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: SSPX), today announced a strategic agreement with Valicert, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tumbleweed Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: TMWD). The agreement will ensure the interoperability between SSP-Litronic's NetSign® CAC product and the Tumbleweed-Valicert Validation Authority™. This will provide an integrated solution for real-time certificate validation through Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) to users of NetSign CAC and the Common Access Card (CAC) in the Department of Defense (DoD).

The new alliance between SSP-Litronic and Valicert will allow both companies to advance their products within the DoD community while providing increased value and higher trust and assurance for the organization and individual. NetSign CAC is a smart card based application that manages digital identities, signs and encrypts email, and provides secure access to workstations, networks, applications, and websites. The added integration with Tumbleweed Valicert Validation Authority will provide an enhanced ability to authenticate and verify digital identities of other individuals. NetSign CAC users will gain the ability to check in real-time, the validity of any digital certificate using OCSP in addition to traditional certificate revocation lists (CRL).

"We are pleased to be working with SSP-Litronic to advance secure communications solutions for the Department of Defense," said Annie Smith, vice president of sales for the federal market. "The natural synergy between these products will provide a high-level of confidence and assurance to the CAC user that their communications and transactions have been appropriately validated and protected. The existing presence and future opportunities for both companies in the DoD and federal agencies will be expanded through this new alliance."

"SSP-Litronic continues to look for strategic partners that will assist our ability to deliver superior solutions to the Government and our NetSign CAC customers. Providing interoperability with Valicert's market leading validation product is a perfect addition to the functionality of NetSign CAC," stated Jim Prohaska, vice president of business development for SSP-Litronic. "We look forward to working closely with Tumbleweed-Valicert to deliver integrated solutions that advance the Government's ability to protect and secure critical communications."
