UK Cabinet Office Uses Tumbleweed Secure Email
London - 25 October 2001 - Tumbleweed Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: TMWD) - a leading provider of secure content management solutions for enabling the business Internet - today announced that it has been awarded a pilot contract by the Office of the e-Envoy (OeE), part of the UK Cabinet Office, to deploy its Secure Messenger solution.
Several government and private organisations, working in conjunction with the OeE, are now using Tumbleweed® Secure Messenger, which forms part of the Secure Guardian framework, to send and receive information securely via the web.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with existing business systems and networks, Tumbleweed's server-based messaging solution automatically encrypts, authenticates, decrypts, monitors and tracks email messages and will fully protect OeE users from the threat of email security breaches.
Martyn Richards, managing director of Tumbleweed, Western Europe, said: "We are delighted that the OeE considers Secure Messenger to be an ideal solution for its Internet security requirements. Security breaches are a genuine and proven concern and it is imperative that organisations treat the secure handling of their communications seriously.
"Government bodies will always be a target for unscrupulous and meddlesome individuals and as such, it is only prudent that they protect themselves with the latest available technology."
A recent survey of 1,600 IT staff in over 50 countries conducted by Price Waterhouse Coopers revealed that 73% had reported some form of security breach or corporate espionage during the past year.
A security architect for the OeE, said: "With an increasing amount of our internal and external communications effort being conducted via the web, ensuring security and confidentiality is a top priority for us."
The solution also offers real-time tracking features enabling users to monitor the successful arrival and download of messages and can be used by any authorised user on any network, web browser or email system.
