Japan's Toppan Forms Launches DigiBin, a Secure Digital Delivery Service on Tumbleweed IME
REDWOOD CITY, CA - December 14, 2000 - Tumbleweed® Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:TMWD), a leading provider of advanced email solutions for business communications, today announced that Toppan Forms Co., Ltd., a leading producer of paper-based and electronic information management systems will use Tumbleweed Integrated Messaging Exchange (IME) as the secure communications channel for customers in Japan and Hong Kong.
Tumbleweed IME is a platform and set of applications for creating secure email channels between a business and its customers, partners and suppliers. Toppan Forms will use Tumbleweed IME for a variety of customer communications associated with the firm's "DigiBin Service," a new Internet emailing business launched in October for the batch dispatch of electronic invoices and other documents with delivery certification. Established in 1965, Toppan Forms is Japan's largest vendor for the outsourcing of mailing services and handles everything from the posting of invoices to direct mailings.
"With electronic communication playing an increasingly important role in business, buyers and sellers of goods and services need to be assured that their electronic documents are being delivered and read. Our new DigiBin Service built on Tumbleweed's IME platform, provides that assurance," said Masahiro Nakajima, Associate Director and General Manager of IMS Division.
"Internet email has broad reach but lacks the security and management services that are the base requirements for any business messaging platform," said Jeffrey C. Smith, president and CEO, Tumbleweed Communications Corp. "Enterprises need to reach every customer, business partner and supplier on the Internet via a rich, secure, two-way communications channel. Tumbleweed solutions make that possible and we are pleased that Tumbleweed IME has been chosen by Toppan Forms for the safe and efficient delivery of its clients' documentation."
Toppan Forms has identified a shift among clients to electronic mail for the delivery of corporate correspondence. The company created DigiBin Service to send critical information online. Toppan Forms uses DigiBin Service to dispatch invoices, direct mailings and other content on behalf of clients via secure email.
Toppan Forms is offering the DigiBin Service as part of a package including its regular mailing services. Clients can choose between emailing and regular mail despatch of their documents, depending on the needs and capabilities of their own customers and correspondents. The document delivery software package Integrated Messaging Exchange (IME) was developed by Tumbleweed Communications Corporation of the US and offered to Japanese clients through its Japanese subsidiary, Tumbleweed Communications KK, headquartered in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.
